Detoun Ogwo is a Development and Human Resources Practitioner passionate about making a difference in the youth employment sector. With a career spanning over two decades in firms such as Diageo, British Airways, British American Tobacco, Stanbic IBTC, T-Mobile and Halifax Bank Plc. She sits on the board of several organisations, including The Skill Development Practice, The Architect’s collective, The Abira Foundation and was the pioneer Executive director and Co-founder of a Federal ministry of education accredited National Career Centre, AGDC Employability & Enterprise Devt Ltd/GTE.
Detoun is currently consulting on the International Labour Organization’s mapping process aimed at developing Nigeria’s National Youth Employment Inventory, a key outcome of the project is to enhance the capacity of youth and youth employment stakeholders in Nigeria for participatory implementation and monitoring of the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan (NIYEAP); along the strategic lines of action guided by “4Es”: Employment, Entrepreneurship, Employability, and Equality and Rights.
An Ashoka Changemaker Fellow, a two-time nominee for the Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Africa) Detoun holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Lagos, several certifications on effective youth employment policies and programs, including a Masters in Development from the ILO International Training Centre of the United Nations System. Currently a doctoral researcher at the University College London’s Institute of Education, she promotes the ideology that the skills and potential of young people are untapped national assets maximally unleashed through human centred and functional school to work transition systems.
Detoun is married to Amechi, an Architect and they are blessed with children.
